Dad is such a skilled and talented woodworker. Need beautiful cabinets or furniture built? Trim work milled from scratch and installed? A house framed from the foundation up? We're so fortunate to be surrounded by his handiwork! The boys enjoyed an introduction to woodturning with him the other day. He turned spinning tops for them, and the boys got to add color to them on the lathe. The tops are heavy, beautiful, and on a decent spin will go for over 60 seconds. Josiah and William were thrilled with them—and with being involved in the making!
Starting to turn the basic shape.
Coming along...
Josiah seeing how to gently apply the marker tip as the lathe whirls.
Josiah adding colors on his own.
William's lesson (on a different lathe).
William applying the color, using a tool rest to keep it steady.
(I didn't take a pic of both boys with their tops at the end. If I think of it at an opportune time, I'll get a photo and update this.)
