A sad tale:

Josiah got it in his head that you were coming home today. At breakfast, he kept saying, "Daddy see Josiah, after school." I explained several times in simple terms that you weren't coming for two more days, not today, but...it turns out he didn't give up on the idea. When I picked him up from day care, I wasn't greeted with his characteristic huge smiles and hugs; instead, his face fell, and then he started crying – tantrum level, in fact – and pushing me away, "No, Mommy, no! Daddy! Daddy get Josiah!!" But of course the glass is more than half full: He will be so happy to see you when he awakes Thursday morning!

I didn't take out the camera today. Instead, here's a photo from Sunday. Josiah was having trouble chasing his beef stroganoff and noodles around, so he came up with the idea of using both his fork and spoon at once! Ingenious.

Mmmm. Beef stroganoff! So good...and yet so rare in our family to find folks that can eat it! I'm glad I'm one of them and glad Josiah is too! Please send me your recipe.

As the Mom in a family with a Dad on the move, I feel your pain. Nick and Meg are old enough now to read the calendar...that helps. How about a paper chain or some sort of bead moving device to help Josiah count down the days until Daddy gets home? Hee hee! I'd be the evil "auntie" who would give him a bowl of hershey kisses and let him have one each day. When the bowl is empty, Daddy will be home. The dentist would probably prefer a paper chain! And keep the system where he can see it, but not manipulate it. Eating all the treats or ripping off all the links will not MAKE Daddy return! :) That would be a classic Megan trick.

PS: I love Josiah's use of tools. Do you coach him??? I bet you have tool-use boot camp in your kitchen every afternoon!
