Laundry line

Here's what's been making me happy this weekend:

With the robins flown, on Thursday Jesse made my day by hanging our new laundry line. It's pulley-style, really high off the ground. I load it up by standing at our back kitchen door (which is one story up), and it's connected to a tree about 30 feet away. Silly how rarely we line-dry our clothes in this country...and sillier how long it's taken me to finally get things together to have my own line!

A few details, if anyone's considering their own:
- The gear cost about $10 all told: pulleys, rope, eyelet screws, line tightener.
- It took Jesse barely over an hour to do the entire job, and that included maneuvering a 17' ladder and pruning a tree to get a clear line.
- Clothes are drying in about 2 hours midday.
- No problem with either wrinkles or "crunchiness." I hung most of our shirts directly on hangers and they've come out beautifully, i.e., I think I'll actually be ironing less, not more. (That alone makes it worthwhile!)
- It definitely takes more time than shoving everything into the dryer and hitting the button, but for now it seems more soothing than onerous.
- "Unmentionables" are being hung on our little indoor drying rack for the sake of the neighbors. :) Well, not Josiah's, since Elmo, Thomas, and dinosaur undies are super-cute!

How come when we line dry our laundry, it's wrinkly and crunchy? I hate it, and I make Holly put them in the dryer to tumble for 10 or 15 minutes.

I have a comment not about the line. It's about your window. Am I to believe that you live in a house with a 2 1/2 year old and you have dainty china tea cups on display on your windowsill?

Where did I go wrong? I am a miserable failure!
